[BOOTLEG] Soundgarden @ Showbox at the Market (4/16/10)
Here is our bootleg of Friday's Soundgarden reunion show at the Showbox. As it compares to the other one currently making the rounds on the net, it is a better mix overall, less muddy but slightly quieter. It's not broken into tracks, instead a complete set. April 19, 2010 11:24 AMI respect your personal opinions but feel you should offer the same respect to musicians when they decide to venture outside the kind of music you find easy to understand. Using phrases like "despicable plunge into pop music" or "career offenses" just reveals your own prejudice and lack of objectivity. All you're really saying is that you don't like it: that's not the same as intelligent criticism.
April 19, 2010 11:29 AMIt's my blog, I'm entitled to my own tastes and opinions. Tastes and opinions that many people seem to respect. I don't write lamestain bs copy for magazines and newspapers, and so yes sometimes I am a little biased. I am a rock, metal, punk rock music fan and that is the premise of this site. One that aims to champion the best of those genres. I write it as I see it. His need to be a solo artist marred his credibility for a number of years and only as the frontman of the mighty Soundgarden does it return. I stand by the fact that Scream and Carry On are not very good records, and Audioslave was borderline mediocre. A far cry from what Chris is capable of as a musician and artist in all cases. Sorry you don't approve, but everything on this blog I endorse, every band, record, every opinion is on here for a reason.

April 19, 2010 12:14 PMI unfortunately saw Chris perform his rather ugly attempt at Hip Hop live at the Showbox a couple years ago with Timbaland. I wanted my money back. ... When I see Soundgarden live, he will have made up for it becxause hopefully that disaster with Timbaland proved that he needed to get back with his band and stop his silly pursuits.

However, I must admit, it solidified my belief that Republicans are brainwashing my rock star faves i.e. Metallica and Chris Cornell, which ultimately affects Soundgarden. It's fucking INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS or THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE through and through. It's John Carpenter's THE THING! I mean, how the hell do you explain this shit? Fuck objectivity. I know this to be the truth. Ask Art Bell.

Is it possible that Seattlelites and diehard SG fans are so protective of their grunge history that they cannot or will not accept change?
April 21, 2010 10:51 AMI prefer Cornell solo, yet am totally okay with him performing in a band. Why isn't the reverse true? How many die hard SG fans and Seattlelites would say the same about his solo career? Why is it so abhorrent to them that Cornell likes to experiment?
Personally, I think a lot of people just didn't like that Chris recorded with Timbaland. Maybe even call it culture shock. Whatever the case, I hope Chris continues his solo career. And, I look forward to hopefully hearing new music from Soundgarden. Change can sometimes be a really good thing, ya know?
Chris can experiment all he wants, I have no problems with him trying different things but I don't have to like it just because it's Chris. It's kind of hard for him to live down what he is best known for.

April 22, 2010 8:21 AMWarrior: The problem is not Cornell's choice to do a solo career. I think he's had some amazing solo songs -- "You Know My Name," off the Casino Royale Soundtrack, is an amazing song. "Seasons" is also a great song. I dug the Euphoria Morning album, too.
April 22, 2010 9:28 AMI just couldn't stand Scream. What made it worse was what was billed as a Chris Cortnell concert back in 2008 turned into the Timbaland show featuring Chris Cornell. So here you have Timbaland mocking the rock fans in the audience. He asked us, like, five times to shout and wave if we bought Timbaland's album. Only the first couple rows of people did.
“Is this a rock crowd or what?” he flatly said, to which the audience soundly applauded. He went on to perform a version of Smells Like Teen Spirit.
“Grunge rockers, where ya at? Ya all hard core, huh? But this is 2008, right.”
And he said he was proud of what he did for “that tired grunge sound.,” which he said “needs help.” Obviously, Timbaland felt he was the man for the job.
He called his work on the Cornell solo album “Scream” — “One of the best pieces of work I’ve ever done in my life.” He said he “really respected grunge rock and I respect you guys who go to Ozzfest and all that s**t.” (I took notes).
I had been to every Cornell show in the last decade. Last year when he came back to Seattle, I ditched the show. Told everyone to wake me up when Soundgarden re-appeared. Thank God they're back.
flac? lol. if it isn't good sound to begin with, making it a .flac is just a waste of space. When will people understand that a larger size file does not mean higher audio quality? everyone would just use uncompressed .wav if that were true. We stopped doing that 12 years ago, mostly because it is retarded. you are TOTALLY missing the point if you use a retarded format like flac or a 1000k/sec mp3.
